NAXALITES

FIGHTING FOR GOOD CAUSE! K K Singh
For the last few months I am passing through agonising moments about the activities of Maosis or Naxalites and governments' and enlightened self-interest people condemning their activities! I am surprised and at the same time shocked over action  being launched against the Naxal activities by union and various state governments. Why this? Are they not fighting for causes of poor and tribal, being exploited by state power , capitalists, industrialists, neo-rich classes, multi-nationals etc? Are they not the Indian citizens? Have they no right to fight injustice,? Cannot they raise their voices for right to life of people, guaranteed under the Indian Constitution and also raise their voices against suppression of freedom of expression? Yes , they have all avenues to raise their voices against exploitation of poor,,tribalsand deprived lots.Than why this  state terror and so called Salwa Jud um, private army of Chhatishgarh government to suppress and kill the Maoists or Naxalites! One must remember that Naxal operation is major component of left forces and activities to highlight exploitation in the Indian Society-this movement  came out in early 1960s from a  West Bengal village under the heroic leadership of late Charu Mazumdar and Kanu snyal. Trade union rights to agitate still continues in statue book! This movement flourished  and many even after becoming martyrs joined this pious movement to change the system and many living comrades are fighting for injustices! And the system to some extend, changed also. At the same time exploitation also reached at its zenith. An edit page article "A Need To Be Fighting FIT" by a retired police chief Prakash Singh in The Times of India on June 30, obviously to provoke union and state governments, affected by naxal activities, to take effective measures to curb naxal menace,  rather stirred my conscience and I thought better to speak now about the so called problems of Naxalism.
Prakash Singh has spoken many things , reminding the union home minister Chhidamabaran  for lack-lustre approach to "eliminate" Maoists. In the process, Singh reminded the decision of the government to start operation against Naxalites  by the plan of "clear, hold and develop" in the worst affected  areas of Chhatishgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa, west Bengal and Maharashtra to eliminate the "naxal menace"in two to three years! The operation "clear. hold and develop" to eliminate Naxalism appears to have many follies. In my opinion, there is urgent need of development in the affected regions  by soothing the injured feelings of poor and tribal, who are now being saved and rescued by Maoisists from further exploitations. Development should come first. The government must come forward through heavy dose of development schemes in affected areas with sympathetic approach. The chalked out  strategy of union government and affected state governments are bound to rebound and Maoists programme will take deeper root and spread to different other parts of the country as well as urban centres very soon , a member of Maoist politburo arrested recently in Bihar told intelligence officials in course of interrogation. Naxalites are fighting to save and rescue poor people and tribal in forest areas. Almost all forest areas in the country are being mortgaged by respective governments in the hands of capitalists, industrialists, multinationals, corporates etc to set up industries  by uprooting home and lands and Forest covers in the region. Are these measures proper to uprootot poor tribal? If not then why not Naxalites not help the affected people from exploitation. Sadly , union government has become silent to these naked drama  of fascits -type action of different state governments! Naxalites must not keep silent and save the poor from state power clutches also to save their homes ,lands, forest cover in tribal areas and also for the sake of conducive environments in the country. Moreover, it appears surprisingly that only tribal belts are suitable for setting up industrial units and not the plan areas. Forest rights of tribal are also being deprived and they are also not paid proper and adequate compensation for taking over their lands.
Capitalists' out;look and measures in the last ten to 15 years have made the situation more complicated and in the name of industrial units and markets , poor are being deprived of their due share. In plan areas , lands are still concentrated in the hands of few people and  the neo-rich people in the society. Except west Bengal, nothing tangible has been done for land reforms and land for landless. Almost all the state governments and union government are keeping mum over such serious issue of land reform. Not only that over hundred year Act of land acquisition are in operation and government' specially centre is silent not to amend the act or fresh land acquisition act for land acquisition for public purposes.
Land grabbing , water grabbing, forest resources grabbing mafias have become active throughout the country and major encouragements on their activities have government support and the government has itself become land grabbers of poor in the name bringing moon by setting up industries in the tribal and plan areas of the country. But there are many right thinking politicians including Congress leader Digvijay Singh, West Bengal chief minister, Mamta Bannerjee, Bihar chief minister, Nitish Kumar (now Nitish has changed his track-initially he was for development and sympathetic approach to tackle Naxlites activities) and even left oriented mode of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi appear to have a different approach to tackle naxalism not through state terror. They are also of the opinion of heavy dose of development and due rights to poor , farmers, industrial and other workers and their trade union rights. Also sympathetic treatment to poor and tribal and to bring them in national main stream by providing them education and health factlities-and naxal ism or Maoism will gradually go down. Naxalites or Maoisits are not fighting to overthrow the government or Constitution but they want overhauling in system , which has become decadent and exploitative.
Interestingly, the union government has announced a Rs 3,300 crore integrated action plan for 60 naxalite-hit districts across nine states to ensure overall development of these areas, setting up schools, health facilities, roads and access to safe drinking water etc, Prakash singh has said in the write-up. But strangely , Praksh Singh is unnecessarily blaming the political leadership of different states either of non-serious or indifferent to the Maoist problem or making hey while sun shines. Strangely and sadly Prakash Singh has praised the Chhatishgarh BJP chief minister Raman singh for taking up Maoist head-on, obviously for eliminating Maoists or killing them or  nabbing them under well planned so called salwa judum and state terror!Raman singh has taken tyranny at its zenith to kill or eliminate Maoists.
Now the tactics of Raman Singh is being replicated by his Bihar counter-part Nitish Kumar, who has also support of BJP,. Over a dozen important veteran naxalites and members of central politiburo of Maioists party , have been arrested from different parts of Bihar in recent past  under "well planned conspiracy hatched between Raman Singh and Nitish Kumar", a top naxalite source said. Not only that Nitish government is torturing Naxalites and their supporters and sympathisers in different parts of the state. An important Politburo member, who has been arrested by Bihar police recently, has confirmed that Maoists will spread their activities in urban areas and its consequences will be worst in Bihar, intelligence sources said.
Main reasons of not carrying development in naxal-affected areas in different parts of the country, specially in Bihar is half-hearted development measures in the affected areas. Apart from that, corruption in implementing development programme in affected areas, mainly in tribal belts and rural areas is also proving stumbling bloc in implementing development schemes in affected areas. Power-that-be or ruling politician elites, bureaucracy and power brokers are hand in glove to thwart the implementation of development measures and bulk of money are gobbled up by them! Prakash singh has also mentioned such menace in his writings and said that fruits of development are not reaching the intended beneficiaries. In Bihar such nefarious practice is much much more and least said is better.
MY SYMPATHY WITH MAOIST AND NAXALITE COMRADES FOR CHANGING THE SYSTEM. K K SINGH, Journalist, After retirement from TImes of India as chief reporter is based in Patna and writing , writing, more and more, reading , reading more and more and praying , praying almighty more and more..

WRONG

Dear viewers\readers, Now I am back after sabbatical-my blog:
Nitish Kumar vis-a-vis Bihar!
--------------------------------
Many things are happening in Bihar in the last over fifteen  days. People are at a loss and sad. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is keeping mum. His government machinery and ministers are engaged in different games! After return from his China 's goodwill visit, Nitish perhaps is dreaming only China and smiling! Reasons best known to him. But some time Nitish speaks gospel truth.!People like me think what  has gone wrong with Nitish! Strangely for every bad things, Nitish and his ministers as well as ministerial colleagues as well as BJP, JD(U) party men blame centre and previous governments for all the prevailing maladies. Forget past and build Bihar slogans do not appreciate present Nitish government!
Nitish was away in China and his health minister Ashwani Kumar Choubey away in Gujarat to take a lesson or two from Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra modi for elimination of Muslims from Bihar when killer disease is rampaging Muzaffarpur 's Tirhut region and police firing in Araria village where six persons were killed including a pregnant woman and a child,
So far over 60 children have died of killer disease in Tirhut region in the last twelve days. Although doctors initially diagnosed the disease encephalitis ,Later  it proved wrong.Pune lab of virology also disclosed that disease is not encephalitis! And dying spree is going on .Children from poor start a are the victims and the disease has spread in entire region. Many poor have not tunrned up to Muzaffarpur hospitals because they cannot afford treatment and  in the process many boys and girls died crying. Almost all hospitals including private and SKMedical college hospital , Muzaffarpur are crowded and flooded with patients. Doctors have raised their hands. In many cases it was detected that parents of children, who died of disease while in treatment in government hospitals, were not given bodies-and cruelty and inhuman treatment crossed all limits in Nitish Kumar government! Moreover, now  the Pune virology lab wants of brain swab to detect the disease after test in the lab-but the state government has  becme motion less. Nothing tangible is done! Only death reports are pouring in apart further spread of Kala-azar in the region in which over half a dozen have died, Nitish government is yet to make arrangements to airlift experts from other parts of the country for proper treatment of the children!
Apart from that, state has also witnessed one of the worst police firings on innocent Muslim villagers in one of the villages in eastern parts of Araria district. Police firing killed six persons including a pregnant woman and a child of Muslim community. Villagers were protesting the sealing of approach road to the village for opening a starch factory by the son of the BJP legislator. Matter was not a big deal-it would have been thrashed out amicably. But police opened  unprovoked and unjustified firing. Government machinery and ministers of Nitish government reportedly put pressure on Araria district administration to clear the villagers f or starting work on starch factory. Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi had blessings to open starch factory by the son of the BJP legislator! Strangely , instead of giving compensation to police firing victims like such compensations to police firing victims in recent past in different parts of the state, Nitish Kumar ordered for judicial probe and announced that compensation ,if any ,will be given after the report of the commission. It appears discrimination because victims belonged to minority community. Hindu outfits and Nitish's alliance partner BJP reportedly put pressure on Nitish for not announcing compensation to victims!
Sadly, the matter was put under carpet for days together. Newspapers, news magazines, specially urdu dailies as well as electronic media did not take care to highlight such brutal and cruel incident for days together- this is how the media are under undeclared censorship for the last six years during Nitish government! Even a popular Urdu daily, having largest circulation and one of top beneficiaries of advertisements revenue of Bihar government kept the matter censored for days  together to highlight the  incident with Muslims in araria village. In this way media are supposedly in the pocket of Nitish government! Significantly, even media from outside state did not take up the matter when international media like BBC had reported the incident with full coverage.
Matter started only hotting up when a few activists from Delhi and eminent film producer Mahesh Bhatta visited the village and hear sad tale of villagers and saw the actual condition in the village. When Bhatta called the firing unprovoked and unjustified, he was abused and lambasted by BJP leaders and Hindu outfits Thereafter, chairman of the National minority commission Wazahat Habibullah air dashed from Delhi and visited the village for on the spot study. Wazahat also termed the police action and firing unprovoked, killing innocent Muslims. He also held discussions with state government officials. Strangely, Wazahat, who wanted to meet Nitish, to have first hand information about Araria incident was not given incident. Cries of people are subsiding in cacophony of Nitish's announcements galore!
Many things are to be written please wait for next blog!

MUCH HYPED NITISH CHINA VISIT!

MUCH HYPED NITISH CHINA VISIT!
Much media-hyped chief minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar's China visit , beginning tomorrow is being welcomed by the People of the state except the toiling mass of rural areas, who are far away from any source of communication and are indifferent what is happening in the country!
Nitish is going to China with a strong continent of delegation for week-long visit of China, mainly for encouraging Buddhist tourists from that country and also to know-how technology for agriculture development in that country. Bihar is  completely based on agriculture because of so many constraints like acute electricity scarcity to set up new industries.Only long and repeated announcements of Nitish will not suffice the need of the people of the state, lagging for development and considered one of low-rate states in the country in respect of development. Of course with the advent of Nitish Kumar as the chief minister of the state over six years back in coalition with Hindu party-Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP), law and order , which was at the lowest ebb, has been considerably improved. People are gradually feeling secured to some extend!
But as regards the developmental activities and also creating infrastructures, the work, which was being paced fastly in the first five years of his rule, has gradually slowed down. But his other schemes like cycles to students, kanya vivah yojana, fifty percent of reservation to backward, dalit, women in panchayat and local bodies elections are to be praised-In the second tenure of Nitish Kumar, I find only announcements to bring moon in Bihar by making a lot of announcements not only by Nitish but his ministerial colleagues also. In ground realtyy , nothing tangible is being done to convert these announcements in reality! Of all transport sectors and road communication have also improved to little bit. But rural roads, connecting even the block headquarters throughout the Bihar are completely in mess. Dream of new industries and bringing corporates or capitalists to invest and set-up industries are yet to see the light of the day. Electricity is biggest problem in Bihar. Recent announcements of Nitish Kumar to set-up power plants even nuclear power plants for ample of electricity will take at least ten to twelve years by than Bihar will have to give stress on agriculture and agro-based industries.
On education and health front, Nitish government has failed to bring desired development! Initially, on both these sectors, improvement was witnessed and much fan-fare was created-but later  his measures slowed down. Illiterate teachers on fake marsheets were appointed at primary, middle and secondary level! Any body could expect the imparting of education in rural as well as urban areas in these schools! Sadly , the higher education is the worst causalities. Functioning of all the universities are paralysed for the last three years mainly because of tug of war between governor-cum-chancellor of universities and the Nitish government!Students are migrating to other states for higher education and even for middle and  higher education;Nitish's much hyped impatrting of technical education  by opening institutes also remained on paper only and only a few lower level polytechnics were set up without any infrastructures.
Interestingly, Nitish kumar's Agriculture advisor Mangla Roy, has also informed at a recent seminar on development organised by a national Hindi daily that farm sector is the only hope right now to bring some development. For this he has suggested agro-based industries and fish, goat, chicken rearing and also preparing for cold chain to export vegetables and seasonal fruits, which are grown in abundance in Bihar, to other states. Thus , this process will continue for 10 to 12  years till new power plants are erected and start power generation-only than prospects of big industries could be achieved in Bihar!
Situation is not so bright in Bihar on developmental aspects. His visit to china can bring a new hope for Bihar! Nitish and his delegation should find prospects of immediate generation of electricity besides knowing know-how on agriculture in  China. One should keep in mind one thing that energy from nuclear energy will gradually turn into thing of past because of mishap in nuclear power plants in Japan and before that in  many other countries and also mainly nuclear -induced serious ailments like cancer and other deadly diseases and last but not the least escalation in cost in erecting nuclear power plants .. Most of  European countries have already decided to say good bye to nuclear power plants. China has abandoned the plan of electricity from nuclear power plants and Germany did also the same thing. America, the main propagator nuclear energy, is also giving serious thoughts over the issue because of escalated cost as well as danger from nuclear power plants. ON the other hand surprisingly America is encouraging countries like India to set up nuclear power plants to market its  plants and machinery of nuclear system in crores of dollars!
Surprisingly, till now only 13 percent of total electricity produced in the globe, comes from nuclear power plants.World nuclear power plants capacity has stagnated as per an article in the FriontLine.Nuclear power output has declined by two percent over the past four years.Nuclear capital cost has surged high. In India it has been estimated that nuclear power plant cost for generating electricity has gone up five thousand dollar a kilowatt, compared  with over one thousand dollar per kilowatt for coal based power and under one thousand five hundred dollar per kilowatt for producing power from wind. Renewable energy is growing rapidly throughout the globe.China is rapidly converting its plants to generate electricity from non-conventional sources like renewable energy, wind energy, hydro carbon energy etc.China, which has frozen its all nuclear power projects, already has 4.5 times more installed wind power than nuclear capacity and thus will bound to generate more electricity from wind power than nuclear power schemes.Non-conventional source of energy is gaining popularity throughout the globe
Moreover, Nitish Kumar and his delegation must know the technical know-how of producing wind energy and also from renewable energy from China and adopt the same to Bihar. Technicality for generating electricity from wind and renewable energy is not so difficult and .costly. Apart from agriculture based know-how and attracting tourism in Buddhist circuits in Chinsa, Nitish should approach China leadership for providing technology for generating electricity also.

M.F HUSSAN IS NO MORE

10.06.2011.
--------------
TRIBUTES TO M.F.HUSSAIN.
He had said," I never wanted to become clever, esoteric, abstract. I wanted to make simple statements. I wanted my canvases to have a story.I wanted my art to talk to people,"
My rich tributes to Hussain ,painter, political philosopher and passionate admirer of beuteous Bollywood actresses tstartlingly  to life and I pray to Almighty-may his soul rest in peace. This apart what an Indian like me can do on the demise of a great personality! WE, I mean us, Indian society, are part to be blamed to not give a share of last laugh  at his birth place to a great man on the earth and Hussain died in London as Qatari citizen and cremated there! We all are part of this decadent society in India! A great man born in a village in Maharashtra, later shifted to Bombay as initially painting cinemas hoardings and billboards and later rose to height in painting field throughout the world, equating himself as famous painter Piccasso-fame.Thereafter many developments had taken place in his life and by making Bombay as his "karmkshetra", Hussain touched the sky of fame And in the last phase of his life, Hussain had been caught between devil and deep sea.

Painting or righting or speaking etc are freedom of expression-these are the things not to be seen or looked with naked eyes but with heart and mind. But we Indians have strange habits of not allying hearts and minds on anything happening on the earth! For making painting of Hindu God and Godesses and making films to raise voice against unIslamic culture, written in Quoran, Hussain has to pay heavy prices. Lot of criminal cases were lodged against him when he was on tour to foreign countries a few years back. His house was vandalised in Bombay by Hindu outfits activists and both Muslims and Hindu  have gone after his bloods. For some time,,he remained in different countries of the globe for shelter but when matter worsened, Hussain moved to Qatar where he was offerred Qatari citizenship and he accepted it gladly and started remaining there. But love for motherland India never died from his heart-many of us met him in foreign countries and exchanged the reminiscenes with Hussain.
Shame to us and Indians as a whole, who could do nothing to get back Hussain  to his motherland, And he crazed for Bombay faluda before his death as narrated by eminent writer and social activist Shobha Dey, who met a few hours ago with Hussan in London.Mainly the successive union governments and politicians of all hues are to be blamed for such maltreatment to Hussain. But we Indian remained silent! Does this not prove that we all Indians are to be blamed? I consider this is slur on secular democratic country like India!
Strange are the ways in India. Currently, we are crying for rampant corruption, money stashed in abroad banks and countries of neo-rich Indians etc but Hussan's honour, dignity, his bringing back to his motherland never became an issue-and we remained silent like cowards-we could not enegise us to protest against illtreatment to Hussain! This is our India  where we can assemble in thousands for non-issues like demolition of mandir, masjid and many other issues but when the matter of crux come like food to poor in majority of India's rural areasr and other basic amenities , we keep silence-this does not prove that We are "murda ka desh hai."
I strongly blame every Indians for treatment with Hussain and he was compelled to accept the offer of Qartar government for citizenship and subsequently died in London and cremated there.
Last but not the least, if such trend continues and people start glorifying Babas, Sadhi, self-styled Mahatma Gandhi type men and politicians, who are no better than thieves except a few, generation to come will ask us how this happened and history will be with such sad aspects, happening in India.

OMINOUS SIGN FOR INDIA!

OMINOUS SIGN FOR INDIA!
Strange developments are taking place in India in the recent months. Huge corruption in corridor of power right from almost all state governments to union governments have come to light. Involvement of politicians, officials, power brokers, a few journalists in telecom scam and other scams in the country are practically breaking the back-bone of the democratic and secular fabrics of the country. Subsequently the controversy over a strong Lok Pal bill and obstinacy of civil society members led by Anna hazare is plaguing the checkmating of corruption menace in the country.
Thereafter, the  hue and cry over unearthing of huge black money in foreign banks and countries of  neo-rich  Indians and agitation of spiritual Guru and Yoga teacher, Swami Ramdev is also posing a big question mark over the way the union government should act!
Apart from that, scams after scams in Karnataka BJP government and, corruption in implementation of NAREGA in entire country , specially in Bihar because of misuse of funds and non-utilisation of the same fund have also raised many eyebrows throughout the country.
Ongoing trend in journalism to support the dictum of power-that-be for imposing undecalred censorship on newspapers and electronic media, and also news magazines to curb the freedom of expression is also giving a cautious note that are our media are going down to the drains or giving long rope to government to go scot free although some media are playing important role in  exposing the people and governments for its misdeeds.
Judiciary is also not untouchable to the recent declining trends in the country. Strangely Judges are also divided lots. Strange rulings some time wonder people-that also strange observations while hearing the cases- Judges should put on records the observation as per laws even to embarrass the government or anybody so in accoradance with law and legal procedure- they should not act like commentators , sitting in the judges commentary boxes!
Because of partisan attitude of the union and state governments towards the plight of poor, tribals etc in the country-Naxalites are rightly spreading their network in almost all states to fight state terror and feudal landloards
.Recent happenings in neighbouring Pakistan, Afghanistan etc in the wake of killing of Osama Bin Laden in US raids and increase in terrorists' activities in Pakistan and Afhganistan  appears to be disturbing trend in South-East Asia. The imperialist America , which economy is gradually slipping to downward trend, is creating unnecessary problems in the region! Fast changing political game of politics in gulf countries and also in the Middle East is giving agonising moments in the entire globe, particularly India, China and their neighbouring countries.Question of a new Constitution of Nepal, hanging fire for the last two to three years and India,s indifferences for playing possitive role towards its Himalayan neighbour-Nepal is bound to be rebound in harming the interest of India in future to come!
Firstly, to tackle corruption, Manmohan Singh government and almost all state governments have practically failed and new and effective law to curb the menace appears to be a distant dream. One should rightly agree with civil society that all power ful persons in power including in prime minister, lower to high officials, legislators, high court and supreme court judges etc must come under the perview of new Lokpal Bill! The union government is posing hurdles in framing the consensus bill to be passed by the Parliament. But the opposition leaders and MPs must be taken into confidence and their views must be solicited on the bill as ultimately they are peoples' representatives and they have to pass the bill in the Parliament ! Calm and cool discussions should be intiated to p repare the draft of Lokpal bill. Let us hope for the best as the enacted bill will prove a mile stone in tackeling corruption.
Secondly, I must discuss the current agitation of Swami Ramdev, who rightly wants to bring back black money stashed in foregign banks and countries. But the way Swami Ramdev is acting it appears thast he has become an extra-constitutional authorities! Everybody should condemn the night -long action of the Delhi police in Ramlila ground to disallow Ramdev and his supporters to carry indefinite fast to press for unearthing black money (In the process many have been injured and Swami Ramdev's unseemly character to flee the venue in woman's dress do not behove well for a Swami stature of Baba Ramdev). Surprisingly many politicians and people have desribed the event by equating Jallianwala bagh massacres and J P agitation suppression! Such comparision is highly objectionable to glorify Ramdev in the name historical facts, which people remember with reverance!
Now the latest call of Ramdev to raise militant organisation for self-defence shows his true character how he is serious about the unearthing of black-money. Forgetting his spiritual sermons and non-violence preachings of Mahatama Gandhi, Swami has moved a step forward to create anarchy in the country! To press his points before government, Swami wants to terrorise the government and civil society to accept his view points without any valid reasons. His action and call will definitely aggravate the terror activities by terrorists in the country. Not only that if he is realy sincere in his adventure , Ramdev should join Naxak movements and mobilise Naxalites to stop terror and state power atrocity on poor , dalits, tribals, backward and majority section of forward classes in the country. Ramdev should concentrate his fights with Naxalites against corporates, multinationals, capitalists, American impreliasm, and state's dubious role in acquiring lands of people for starting industries in forest as well as fertile landloards in almost all parts of the country. The way Ramdev is moving will bound to rebound! For unearthing black money, the union government should also initiate immediate action as per international treaties so that crores of Indian money stashed abroad should be brought back!
Need of the hour is freedom of press! Media must play a watch-dog. The Judiciary should move cautiously in this critical hour and look the Constitution and Laws in delivering and recording hearings and judgements. No doubt that executiuve and legislative organs of the government have failed in many aspects and judiciary has to take up their roles for the welfare of people! Many fungers have be raised in past avbout corruption in judiciary and at least three for chief justices of the Supreme Court are in docks and many judges of high courts are facing impeachments because of corruption.
If the presnt trend continues and a choosen few so called politicians, civil society members, and bureacracy , judiciary as well as sadhus and sants continue to indulge in such nefarious games, the real people of India, who constitutes 80 percent of rural areas and dependent on aghriculture, will rise to the occassion and teach them a lesson -our secular  democratic system will prevail..

VERY SAD TODAY

SAD NEWS.
I am sad today. One of the valuable colleagues and veteran journalist, Shashi Shekhar Singh passed away yesterday noon in Patna We worked together in Times of India for years together. He was Chief sub-editor anfd I was Chief reporter. We used to call him Shashi Babu. After retirement around elevel years back, Shashi Babu was living in his local Patrakarnagar residence. I also after retirement is living in Housimg colony Lohianagar, Patna. We used to meet very often! Now he is no more! A gentleman par excellence, Shashi Babu was a brilliant Chief sub-editor and used to bring out bright newspapers. He has started his journalism from now defunct The Searchlight and thereafter joined Times of India. Worked under great and stalwart editors like SMS Sharma, Rama Rao etc-Shashi Babu used to be drafted for bringing out special events in The Searchlight-he used to bring out nice newspapers of wars in successive years in The Searchlight-Likewise he was pioneering in gulf war events in bringing out editions in Times of India. His memory was so sharp that he used to recall the old events on his finger tips! Shashi Babu was Master of Law from Patna university when rarely anybody used to do such master degree in law! Shashi Babu has wide knowledge on every subjects- he used to narrate old event to us. One more merits in Shashi Babu was that he used to refer Bhagwad Gita and Durga Saptshi to his colleagues- almost all stanzas of Gita and Durga Shaptshi were on his lips without any search of both the books-similar were his memory on other books also and events. He had definite left leanings but i n professional skills it used not  to be reflected. He was also a champion of fighting Press bill for  curb ing freedom of expression during the regime of the then Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra in Bihar! Shashi Babu has gone but he will be remembered for ever in journalism profession. About him the then Resident Editor of TOI , who is now online editior of the same national English daily these days in New Delhi, has talked about Shashi Babu and had said he had vast knowledge of bringing out bright edition! He had told  to me that some time he finds himself surprised Shashi Babu gossiping during pick hour of bringing out edition but when real call comes and time comes for bringing out edition , Shashi Babu starts work and brings out bright  and beautiful newspapers-it was all praise to Shashi Babu, he had commented. My best tributes to Shashi Babu .
